The Search for the PERFECT Rug

We all know what it's like to want to spice up your space, change a little something here, or a little something there... for me, I felt like it was time to change up our living room.

We decided that replacing the area rug would be a great start. Sounds simple right?

Well this quest for the PERFECT rug, proved to be nothing of the sort. From store to store, I searched for a new rug, with little to no luck. Below I have included an image of the original rug that we chose for the space.

The original area rug.

Coming from the world of fashion, I focus my design style heavily on color, incorporating a variety of colors and textures throughout a space. It is important to consider the movement from room to room, and the experience provided within each room. At FIRM6, we believe that a home or space should feel as though it is a part of a collection. Complete in nature, but working together with the individual rooms to create a seamless experience.

Color is a natural starting point when choosing an area rug. The color of your area rug will set the tone for the entire room, pulling together any colors you already have within that space. It is important to consider how different colors will work with your existing items, furniture, accents, etc.

While shopping around for the perfect rug to give my living room a little something new and different, I came across a beautiful rug at Restoration Hardware, their Trattino Rug Collection was almost exactly what I had been looking for. This rug, pictured below, was beautiful. It was also priced at just under $7,000.

Aside from the rather high price point of this rug, It was extremely dense, very heavy wool material, and the colors were just slightly off from what I needed.

So, the search for the perfect rug would continue...

A few days later, while in Home Depot, picking up a few things, I walked past a rug that was  similar in design to the rug that I had seen in Restoration Hardware.

It was the perfect ivory base with coco brown and heather grey mélange diamond pattern for my space. The material was plush, yet soft and light, softening up the living room perfectly.

This beautiful, Nicole Miller New York rug, was under $400! What a deal!

I have linked the exact rug, which you can order on Wayfair.com. below the image.

If this rug is not for you, Houzz.com has put together an amazing list of Labor Day Weekend Rug Sales.
